Telangana contractor locks up school over non-payment of bill
Hyderabad, Sep 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) A contractor locked up a government-run school in Telangana as authorities had not cleared his bill for revamping the school building.
The incident occurred in Chintakunta village in Kothapalli mandal of Karimnagar district.
Students of the Mandal Parishad Primary School had to stand outside as the contractor locked the school as he was vexed over the delay in clearing his bills for executing some works under "Mana Ooru, Mana Badi" programme of the state government.
Srikanth said he had spent Rs 4.5 lakh on the development works but his bill was not cleared by the authorities concerned.
The contractor claimed to have completed about 75 per cent of the work but officials have not released any money. Since he had carried out the works by borrowing money and the pressure was mounting on him to repay the loan, he had no option but to lock the school to draw attention of the authorities.
Srikanth succeeded in his effort as District Educational Officer Janardhan Rao who sent the Mandal Educational Officer to look into the issue. The contractor relented after the intervention of the MEO, who assured that his bills would be cleared as soon as possible.
This is the second such incident in Telangana in one-and-a-half months. In the last week of July, a building contractor in Warangal district had locked classrooms of a government primary school over the non-payment of bills, forcing students to sit in the open and attend classes.
The contractor had undertaken the construction of two classrooms, a toilet and a ramp at Nikonda Mandal Government Primary School at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.
The contractor had to run from pillar to post but received only Rs 10 lakh. A few months ago he locked the school toilet but re-opened the same after the Education Department officials assured to clear his bills. As the pending amount was not released, the contractor locked two classrooms and the toilet.
The contractor claimed that he had taken a loan for the construction and the interest on the amount has been adding to his troubles which forced him to take drastic action. He relented after senior officials of the Education Department intervened and promised to settle the bills.
Under the Mana Ooru Mana Badi programme, the state government plans to improve infrastructure in 26,000 government schools across the state with an outlay of Rs 7,289 crore in three phases.

Telangana BJP demands action against Assembly Speaker
Hyderabad, Sep 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay on Wednesday demanded action against Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy for making political comments while holding a Constitutional position.
Sanjay, who is also a Member of Parliament, stated that there should be a debate in the Assembly on the conduct of the Speaker, who criticized union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her recent visit to the state.
He alleged that there was a conspiracy to see that people's issues don't come up for debate in the House by not allowing BJP members to attend the session. He criticized the Speaker for not inviting the BJP to the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
Addressing the newly elected convenors and joint convenors for Parliamentary constituencies and district in-charges at the party office here, he alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was scared of the BJP. He said the BJP would settle all the issues with the TRS in a public forum.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Eatala Rajender dared Chief Minister KCR to allow him to attend the Assembly. He said the chief minister should at least announce that he does not want to see him in the Assembly.
Rajender was reacting to reports that the TRS government is planning to suspend him from the Assembly for making certain remarks against the Speaker. He alleged that KCR was continuing his autocratic rule in the state in the garb of democracy.
The former minister said he has not yet received any notice. "Let us see what kind of notice they send. I have not yet received any notice," he said.
Expressing unhappiness over the BJP not being invited to the BAC meeting, Rajender had said on Tuesday that the Speaker should not be a robot in the hands of the chief minister.
Taking strong exception to Rajender's remark, legislative affairs minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy had demanded that he tender an unconditional apology to the Speaker.
Terming the BJP MLA's remark derogatory and an insult to the Assembly, Prashanth Reddy had said if he failed to apologise, action will be initiated against him as per Assembly rules. The minister maintained that it's the Speaker's decision to invite a party to the BAC meeting.
Meanwhile, another BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao has questioned the Speaker's move. He wanted to know how many members a party should have to be invited to the BAC meeting. He recalled that in the past even parties having one member were invited to the meeting.
The BJP MLA challenged Prashanth Reddy to a debate on the issue.
Rao said while the Speaker invited the MIM and the Congress to the BAC meeting, he chose to ignore the BJP, which has three members.
He said if a notice was issued to Rajender, they would legally deal with it. He argued that the word used by Rajender was not unparliamentary.

Hyderabad police warning after fake video goes viral
Hyderabad, Sep 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Hyderabad police on Thursday warned those spreading fake news or provocative videos of severe consequences.
"Beware of spreading fake news/provocative videos. Those who make or share fake posts, causing disruption to public peace will face severe consequences," the city police tweeted along with a video clip which went viral over the last two days.
In the video, a person claiming to be nephew of jailed BJP MLA T. Raja Singh declared that he has converted to Islam. The man, who is seen in conversation with one Esa Bin Obaid Misri, claims that he was previously known as Shiva Singh.
The Cyber Crime police on Wednesday registered a case after P. Sunil Singh, said to be nephew of Raja Singh, registered a complaint.
The complainant alleged that the video clip being circulated on social media shows Esa Misri and one Md Siddiqui talking to each other. Claiming to be the real nephew of the MLA, he termed the video as fake and sought action.
Police booked a case under sections 153 (A) and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code. Esa Misri is a businessman and leader of Congress party.
Raja Singh, a member of Telangana Legislative Assembly from Goshamahal constituency in the city, wasAarrested under Preventive Detention (PD) Act on August 25. He is curently lodged in Cherlapally Prison.
The police invoked the PD Act and arrested him amid protests for his re-arrest for allegedly making derogatory comments about Prophet Mohammad.
Raja Singh on August 22 posted online an offensive video against Prophet Mohammad with an intention to provoke all sections of people and thereby cause breach of peace and public tranquility, said the police.
He was arrested on August 23 but a court granted him bail.
Following angry protests across the city and other parts of Telangana, he was re-arrested.
The city police on August 30 also detained one Syed Abdahu Quadri alias Kashaf, under PD Act for allegedly creating enmity between Hindus and Muslims.
Kashaf, who calls himself a political strategist and a social and civil rights activist, had allegedly raised the 'sar tan se juda' slogan during a recent protest against Raja Singh.

Telangana Governor says state govt humiliating her
Hyderabad, Sep 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Hitting out at the TRS government again, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundrarajan on Thursday alleged that most of the times the governor's office was being humiliated.
On completion of three years in office, she alleged that the state government was discriminating against a woman governor by not following the protocol.
She said she was even denied the opportunity to unfurl the national flag on the Republic Day or deliver her speech.
She alleged that hurdles were being created in her efforts to reach out to the people. She also criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for not visiting Raj Bhavan despite her invitations.
"It will go down in the history of Telangana, how a woman governor was treated," she said.
Claiming that she wants to serve people of Telangana with pure heart and affection, she said she was facing hurdles in her efforts. "There is no personal motive in any of my activities. I am not a controversial person. I am a constructive person," she told reporters at Raj Bhavan.
On a question about the criticism by TRS leaders for displaying photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and not of Chief Minister KCR at Raj Bhavan, she wondered how he can ask for his photo to be put up without visiting Raj Bhavan.
"You are not coming because of the photo? Tomorrow, I will put photo, please come," she remarked.
When asked about Telangana government's allegation that the Centre was discriminating against the state, the governor remarked that good relationship solves problems. She found fault with the chief minister for not attending the South Zonal Council meeting held recently in Thiruvananthapuram.
She said she attended the meeting as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and 75 per cent of the problems on the agenda pertain to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. She claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was willing to discuss and address all the issues. "All the chief ministers were there but why the chief minister (KCR) was not there. What is the problem with you," she asked.
Stating that it was an open forum with all officials willing to discuss the agenda, she wondered why elected representatives were failing in their duties.
She alleged that the state government denied her an opportunity to hoist the national flag at the Republic Day parade. She said she was told to hoist the flag in Raj Bhavan citing Covid-19 protocols. She wondered why this restriction was imposed only in Telangana when all the states held Republic Day parades.
She also claimed that when her office approached the state government for the speech, it was not provided. She defended delivering her own speech on the occasion. "You are not giving the speech means I should shut my mouth. Don't I have a right to talk? Should I read what they give on Republic Day," she asked.
The governor also asked the chief minister what prevented him, his MLAs and MPs from coming to Raj Bhavan. "Is Raj Bhavan an untouchable place," she asked.
Tamilisai said she was targeted on social media when she was a politician and even now when she is holding the office of the governor she is facing humiliation. "However, I am a strong person. Nobody can shatter my commitment towards the people," she said.
She recalled that when she wanted to visit Samakka Sarakka Jatra and sought a helicopter, the state government did not inform till the last minute, forcing her to leave by road. She said she had to travel by road for eight hours.
Tamilisai Soundararajan also targeted the TRS government for what she called changing its stand on September 17, which marks accession of Hyderabad State with Indian Union.
On the controversy over the Government of India celebrating it as 'Telangana Liberation Day' and the state government celebrating it as National Integration Day, she said she studied the state's history and argued that liberation is a correct word. "First they accepted but now taking a different stand because of political reasons," she said.
